Žuta lokva is a town in the county Senj , Croatia , 37 inhabitants. The village belongs to the large municipality of Brinje . In German, the place name means "yellow pond".

geography

Žuta Lokva is located in the north of the agricultural Lika , in the south-western part of the Brinje district. The municipality borders the villages of Melnice , Rapain Klanac , Prokike and Vrzići .

history

The place has been an important traffic junction since ancient times, connecting the continental inland via a salt road (later also known as the Josephine Road ) from Karlovac via Josipdol to Senj on the coast. Since 1780 there was also a postal connection there, which led to the headquarters of the Likaner Regiment in Gospić . Today there is a connection to the Autocesta A1 , the longest and most important motorway in Croatia, which connects the capital Zagreb with the port cities Zadar , Šibenik , Split and, since 2013, Ploče .
