Karlobag (Italian Carlopago , Latin Vegium ) is a seaside resort in Croatia on the Adriatic Sea and belongs to the Lika-Senj County .

Geographically, the village is located below the Velebit Mountains and is opposite the island of Pag on the Velebitski Channel . Karlobag has about 500 inhabitants. The total community has about 1000 inhabitants.
history
In the 6th and 7th centuries AD, Croatians settled in the area. In 925 Karlobag came to the newly founded Kingdom of Croatia under King Tomislav . In the year 1000 the Venetian fleet defeated Croatia. Karlobag and a few other east Adriatic coastal cities (except for Dubrovnik ) came temporarily under Venetian administration. King Petar Kresimir IV recaptured the city. After the collapse of Venice in 1797 and the brief reign of France under Napoleon (1809–1813), Austria took control of Karlobag and it was assigned to the crown land of Croatia. In the 18th century, Karlobag - then called Bag - was, along with Senj, an important traffic and trade center below the Velebit massif. Later Karlobag came to the Kingdom of Croatia within the Danube Monarchy . In 1919 Croatia and with it Karlobag were integrated into the state of the "Southern Slavs" (Yugoslavia). From 1945 Karlobag belonged to the Socialist Republic of Croatia , from 1991 to the Republic of Croatia.

The place is developing into a tourist magnet. Karlobag is the starting point for mountaineers in the Velebit Mountains . Near to many destinations (place Plitvice Lakes National Park , National Park Paklenica and Northern Velebit National Park ) and the islands of Pag and Rab . The coastal town has 3 hotels and numerous guest houses.
Attractions
KUBUS (URA, KOCKA - CUBE) This is a 1.25 m × 1.25 m chiseled stone that rests on four stone balls. The cube was erected at the time of the construction of the road from Gospić to Karlobag (1844–1850). On one side of the cube is the inscription Ferdinandus I Austr. Imp. MDCCCXLVI. On the second side of the cube reads: The culminating point of the new Carlobagenen Straße n zuges on the southern border of the Velebit Mountains near Stara vrata rises above the Adriatic Sea of the fleshe Wiener Fuz.
