Donji Lapac ( Serbian - Cyrillic Доњи Лапац ) is a municipality and municipality in the Lika-Senj County , Croatia . The number of inhabitants of the parish is 2,113 (2011 census), most of whom are Serbs .

Donji Lapac is located in the east of the Lika region on the Una river near the Plješevica mountain at 582 m. The municipality is located on the Bihać - Gračac road .
Demographics
According to the 2011 census, the village has 946 inhabitants and the municipality has 2,113 inhabitants. Before the war, the area was almost exclusively inhabited by Serbs. At that time, 0.5% Croatians lived in the municipality (1991 census). Today there are still more Serbs living in Donji Lapac, namely 80.6% Serbs and 18.8% Croats.

history
The area around Donji Lapac has been inhabited since the Iron Age, which is proven by findings in the region. During the Middle Ages, Donji Lapac was the seat of the Lapac district. In 1449 the place came into the possession of the Frankopan family . During the Croatian War of Independence , Donji Lapac came to the unrecognized Republic of Serbian Krajina along with other cities . Since 1995 the municipality belongs to Croatia again.
economy
Donji Lapac is one of the poorest municipalities in Croatia. Before the war, the city still had a wood and textile industry. The largest employer is Likatrans with 200 jobs. However, most of the residents are unemployed. Those who still have a job mostly work in the service or wood industry. Furthermore, the place is characterized by agriculture. Potatoes and plums are grown. From the latter, the brandy is plum brandy burned.
traffic
In the district of Kestenovac there is a train station of the Una Railway , which once provided the main connection between Zagreb and the Dalmatian coast. Passenger traffic has ceased since the end of the Bosnian War . The Kestenovac train station was destroyed during the fighting.
