Slivovitz
Slivovitz is a fruit brandy made from plums . The name is derived from the Slavic word sliva for plum. Other common spellings are: Slivovic , Slibowitz , Czech slivovice , Slovak slivovica , Slovenian slivovka , Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian šljivovica , Polish śliwowica , Hungarian sligovica , Bulgarian сливовица / slivoviza .

Slivovitz comes in two colors:
- Gold - stored in barrels, colored yellow and flavored by the wood from which the barrels were made.
- White - stored in bottles, colorless.
It is also important which type of wood is used for the barrels. Mostly they are oak barrels , whereby robinia barrels are to be preferred, as they give the schnapps a very special yellow color. In Serbia, slivovitz is also preferably stored in barrels made from the wood of the mulberry tree . In the Moravian part of the Czech Republic , the drink called Slivovice is considered a national drink, just like in Slovakia ( Slivovica ). Due to this popularity of the drink, you will find many black distillers , especially in rural areas , but also a number of licensed small distilleries throughout the Czech Republic. The śliwowica is also very widespread in southeast Poland , especially around the village of Wiesendorf near Neu-Sandez . With up to 70% alcohol content, Śliwowica is one of the hardest spirits of all. Slivovitz is also produced in Styria .
