Course of the Drava

The County Meurimurje [ mɛˈdʑimuːrjɛ ] (Croatian. Međimurska županija , translated in about Zwischenmurland , or intermediate current lands debris area , Hungarian Muraköz megye, Prekmurian Medmürska žüpanija ) is the northernmost county in Croatia . It includes the Međimurje (German also Murinsel ) landscape between the Drava and Mur rivers on the border with Slovenia and Hungary . Međimurje County has an area of ​​730 km² and 113,804 inhabitants (2011 census). Its administrative seat is in Čakovec .

history

From the Middle Ages until 1918 Međimurje (like most of the rest of Croatia) belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary. During the Second World War, the area was annexed by Hungary from 1941 to 1945.
