Walter Karl Ferdinand Krumbach (born April 1, 1917 in Joachimsthal , † January 20, 1985 in Groß Schönebeck ) was a German author of children's books, children's songs, puppet shows and comics.

Life

Walter Karl Ferdinand Krumbach, son of a worker, learned local, police and registry office administration in Joachimsthal after leaving school and then worked as an administrative clerk. Since he was already active as a writer in his youth, he was able to become a member of the Reichsschrifttumskammer in 1935 . In 1936 he got a job in the ducal Schleswig-Holstein general administration at Gut Grünholz in Thumby. During the Second World War he had to do military service as a soldier in the Wehrmacht .

In 1946, Krumbach returned from being a prisoner of war in the United States and trained as a new teacher. In 1947 he started teaching in Dabelow (near Fürstenberg / Havel), where he later became school director.

From 1955 Walter Krumbach worked as a freelance author and from then on lived in Groß Schönebeck . Throughout his life he negotiated his assignments himself and never became a member of the GDR Writers' Association.

His life's work includes around 90 children's books, more than 10 million copies of which were distributed, and around 100 puppet shows. Walter Krumbach wrote for the " ABC-Zeitung " and the " FRÖSI ", u. a. "Treasure Island" (after Robert Louis Stevenson ).

His best-known children's books include: "Hamster Big Belly", "The Forgotten Teddy Bear", "Teddy's Great Day", "Teddy in the Circus", "Igel Itzo", "In the straw on the threshing floor" and "Raisin, our pig".

In addition to the text of the title song of the show “ Unser Sandmännchen ” (“Sandman, dear Sandman” - composer: Wolfgang Richter ) and over 200 episodes “ Herr Fuchs und Frau Elster ”, the song and also come from his pen, which has been broadcast daily on German television since 1959 several episodes of "Meister Nadelöhr" as well as the texts of the "Spielzeugkiste".

Krumbach was the father of three daughters.

In Groß Schönebeck, a plaque on his house, a mural and a street name remind of Walter Krumbach.
