geography

Obersee

Lanke is located in the Barnim Nature Park in the middle of beech and pine forests, 29.5 kilometers northeast of the city center of Berlin . The main town is located in a lowland between three lakes, the Obersee in the west, the Krummen Lanke in the northeast and the southeastern Hellsee . The highest point is at 85.6  meters above sea level in the northern forest area of Lanke between the Bogensee and the Strehlefließ . In Lanke, the national roads L 29 from Biesenthal to Wandlitz and L 31 from Bernau to Prenden intersect . The settlement parts of Ützdorf , Bogensee and Arendsee are located west and northwest of the village of Lanke.

Liepnitzsee

The former Lanker municipality area enclosed the Liepnitzsee with its island, the 71.5 meter high Großer Werder , east of Wandlitz, stretched in the east to Hellmühle, in the north almost to the Prendener Strehlesee and also included some wooded areas of the Probstheide between the Bernauer Districts Waldfrieden and Waldsiedlung . To the east, Lanke bordered on the city of Biesenthal , to the south on Lobetal , Bernau and today's Wandlitz district of Schönwalde , to the west on the above-mentioned districts Waldsiedlung and Wandlitz , and to the north on Klosterfelde and Prenden, today as well as Lanke Wandlitzer districts.

history

Lanke was first mentioned in a document dated December 24, 1315, a confirmation of the possessions and rights of the city of Biesenthal in Latin by the margrave Johann V , "the illustrious". There it literally says que ducit versus Lancke - 'to the path that leads to Lancke'. A document with direct reference to Lanke dates from February 24, 1347. In this document, Margrave Ludwig I , “the Brandenburger”, awarded a miner Fridolin armchair income in the ville Lanken - “Dorf Lanke”. In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the size of the village is given as 36  farmer's hooves and 12  Kossaten . For the origin of the name, see Lanke (toponym) .

Property of Biesenthal Castle since around 1415, Lanke was sold to Friedrich von Götze from Zehlendorf by the Biesenthal lords of the castle von Arnim in 1620. In 1624 the village had 126 inhabitants according to the lap register . After the Thirty Years' War , the village was completely destroyed, only one miller is said to have still lived in the deserted place at that time . As early as 1734, 126 people lived in Lanke again. After several changes of ownership, the Lanke estate came into the possession of the von Redern in 1827 .

church

After purchasing the property, Count Friedrich Wilhelm von Redern had the pleasure garden located to the east converted into a landscape park based on plans by the garden architect Peter Joseph Lenné . In the years 1856 to 1858, the old manor house was built over in the style of the French Renaissance on behalf of the Count, resembling a castle. The work goes back to plans by the architect Eduard Knoblauch . At that time the building was also called Landhaus Redern after its owner , later popularly called Schloss Lanke .

In June 1866 the village burned down almost completely due to flying sparks. One reason for this was the reed roofing of most houses that was still in place at the time . Only the castle and probably a farm and a fisherman's house, in which the new school was later set up, remained intact. As early as 1867 to 1868, Lanke received a new brick church in neo-Gothic style for the church that was destroyed by the fire , financed by the von Redern family.

Around 1900 the Counts of Redern were the largest landowners in the Niederbarnim with the 4500  hectare Lanke estate . The estate, including the country house and its outbuildings, was sold to the city of Berlin in 1914 , which then acquired extensive forests in its northern area. They should be preserved as recreational areas for the population of Berlin and as fresh air corridors for the sprawling urban development. Tourism in Lanke and the nearby Ützdorf was already developing at the end of the 19th century . For the Berlin-trippers several restaurants and pensions were built and the Obersee a bathhouse.

At the end of the 1930s, a three-winged house was built as a country residence for the then Propaganda Minister of the German Reich , Joseph Goebbels , on Bogensee north-west of Lanke. The city of Berlin made the 16,000 m² site available to him for life in 1936. After the Second World War , the property, expanded by several multi-storey buildings in the style of socialist classicism , served as a youth college for the FDJ to train communist cadres of the SED . From 1990 onwards, new usage concepts were sought, including a. for an international educational institution. After unsuccessful sales efforts, the Berlin property fund decided not to offer the area any further for the time being. About 100 people still live in this small settlement (as of 2009), which also has no reasonable infrastructure.

After 1945 the castle and its outbuildings first became a TB hospital, then a branch of the Eberswalder hospital. It was a retirement home until about 1995.

After the dissolution of the districts of the GDR and the re-establishment of the state of Brandenburg on October 3, 1990, Lanke was an independent municipality in the Bernau district . The administrative tasks have been carried out since July 1, 1992 by the Wandlitz office within the Barnim district . With the conversion of the office to the municipality of Wandlitz by state law on October 26, 2003, the place Lanke lost its independence. The former community has since been part of the large community of Wandlitz. On June 16, 2005, a constitutional complaint by all municipalities belonging to the office against the municipal reorganization before the constitutional court of the state of Brandenburg was rejected.

It was completed in 1868, financed by the von Redern family, the owners of the castle and the Lanke estate.

Lanke Castle

Main entrance to Lanke Castle

The Lanker Schloss was built from 1856 to 1858 by the architect Eduard Knoblauch as a two-storey plastered building in the style of the French Renaissance, with the basement vaults of a previous building being included. The building with its steep hipped roofs has a three-axis central projection and two-axis side projections, which are framed by eight corner towers. The park, which adjoins the south-west towards Hellsee , was redesigned in the style of an English landscape park based on plans by Peter Joseph Lenné even before the new palace was built. There was a main line of sight between the castle and the lake. Further lines of sight radiate away from the castle building. The park is mostly overgrown today. The building and park were sold to a group of private individuals following a tender by the Berliner Liegenschaftsfonds in 2006. These will gradually build apartments in the main building, but will have a vaulted cellar, entrance area and attic for the general public.
