The Lottschesee , consisting of the large and small Lottschesee, is a natural body of water in the Barnim district in Brandenburg . The lake is located about two kilometers north of Klosterfelde in the immediate vicinity of the federal highway 109 , which runs past it to the west, as well as the route of the Heidekrautbahn running parallel to the street with the Lottschesee stop of the same name .

Around 35 kilometers from Berlin city center, Lake Lottschesee is a popular local recreation area that is particularly popular with capital city residents in the summer months.

geography

The Lottschesee lies on the territory of the municipality of Wandlitz , which was formed from nine originally independent municipalities as part of the municipality reform in October 2003. Until the incorporation, the Große Lottschesee and parts of the west bank of the Kleiner Lottschesee belonged to the local situation of Klosterfelde, the Kleine Lottschesee itself was on the territory of the municipality of Prenden . Immediately to the west of the lake is the border between the districts of Barnim and Oberhavel . The Lottschesee covers an area of around 42 hectares, of which the Kleiner Lottschesee accounts for 13.13 hectares and the Great Lottschesee 28.6 hectares. The lake level is 39 m above sea level . The average depth of the lake is two to three meters, and both partial lakes are heavily muddy. A water inflow into the Kleiner Lottschesee takes place via the Vorderen Graben from a wetland west of the federal highway 109. The ditch leaves the lake on the east bank of the Großer Lottschesees and drains the lake towards the Prendener Seenrinne via the Eiserlaake and the Pregnitzfließ to the Finow Canal and on to the Oder .

In the west, the routes of the federal highway 109 and the Heidekrautbahn lead directly past the lake. A stop on the Heidekrautbahn is only a few meters from the shores of the Großer Lottschesees. It was opened in 1933 and since then has mainly served summer visitors, hikers, campers and cyclists.

Recreational value

The Lottschesee was already known in the Middle Ages for its wealth of fish. Even today it is a popular fishing lake and home to two fishing clubs. The fish population includes pike , pikeperch , eel , perch , roach and rudd . Fishing from the bank is not possible, however, as both partial lakes are completely surrounded by a belt of reeds and several swamp areas or are simply built up.

At the Kleiner Lottschesee, in the immediate vicinity of the Haus Lottschesee restaurant , there is a public swimming area that is popular in the summer months. The neighboring campsite also offers a variety of recreational opportunities. It is open all year round. An unpaved road leads from the B 109 to the excursion restaurant and the lake and also serves as the entrance to the bungalow area on the west bank of the lake.

Peat cutting Klosterfelde and biotopes

About 600 m southwest of the Lottschesee lies the 31 hectare nature reserve Torfstich Klosterfelde . 3.45 hectares of the total area have belonged to the NABU Foundation since 2005 and are looked after by it. In addition to the water-filled peat cuttings, the NSG includes other biotopes worthy of protection such as moorland and swamp forests, reed beds, dry sand grass areas and smaller inland dunes. The peat cut provides a habitat for numerous amphibians and reptiles, and numerous bird species worth protecting, including whinchat , snipe , crane , screeching eagle and osprey can be observed in the NSG. Striped and broad-leaved orchid , clove root , round-leaved sundew , common frog spoon and water feather are among the plant species that are worth protecting in the area.
