Andreas Petermann (doctor)

Andreas Petermann (born March 7, 1649 in Werblin near Danzig ; † April 3, 1703 ) was a German medic .

Life

Andreas Petermann was born in Werblin in 1649, so his father, who later went to Delitzsch as a deacon , was a preacher . He attended high school in Halle an der Saale and studied medicine , philosophy and theology in Leipzig . After having practiced medical treatments in Gera for some time , he received his doctorate in Altdorf in 1673. In Torgau , Delitzsch and a few neighboring towns he then took on the position of a city doctor and, in 1680, during a plague epidemic , although affected by the disease itself, distinguished himself so favorably that he was appointed to Leipzig by the city council. There he settled as a general practitioner, enjoyed a great reputation and was particularly valued as an obstetrician. In 1688 he was appointed associate professor and in 1691 full professor of anatomy and surgery . In addition to his work as a doctor and teacher, he was constantly engaged in theological research and showed himself to be an avid defender of the philosophy of René Descartes . In the last year of his life he suffered a very painful foot condition and died on April 3, 1703 at the age of 54.

In addition to numerous medical dissertations, Petermann wrote:

After Petermann's death, his son published:

His youngest son Benjamin Benedikt Petermann (* 1680; † April 17, 1724) also became a doctor.
