Germendorf is located west of the core city of Oranienburg and extends from the Muhre to the Ländchen Glien (Germendorfer Sander) over an area of 1528 hectares , of which only 207 are inhabited.

The district is located in the Haveldurchbruchstal in the Zehdenick-Spandauer Havelniederung . In addition to other gravel pits, there is a gravel pit in the west of Germendorf, which has been operated since 1928 on the property of the painter Erich Buchholz , among others .

history

The land register of Emperor Karl IV. From 1375 with the place name Gerwendorp or Gerwendorff provided the first documentary mention . The village appeared in the Havelland castle register with a margravial fee of 2  pounds each on Walpurgis (May 1st) and St. Nicholas' Day (December 6th). In the following decades and centuries the spelling changed again and again, so it was called, among others, Germendorff, Gerbendorff (1450), Gerwendorpp (1480) and Gerbendorff .

Due to devastating fires, the place has been destroyed several times over the years. Much of the village was destroyed during the Thirty Years War (1618-1648).

The clinker brick church in the center of the village, which is now a listed building, was built in 1739 after the old church fell victim to a fire. In 1861 the church tower had to be renewed because the old church tower was destroyed by another fire.

Germendorf village church

Germendorf was an anger village for hundreds of years until the 20th century . In 1915, Germendorf station was opened as part of the construction of the Nauen – Oranienburg railway line. As a result, Germendorf also moved a little closer to Berlin and enabled an initial increase in population. It further changed the image of the village: new residential areas for workers were created.

In 1936/1937, the operators of the Ernst Heinkel Flugzeugwerke built Plant I of the Heinkel-Werke Oranienburg south of the village . During the National Socialist era, between 6,240 and 8,000 prisoners did their forced labor in a satellite camp of the Sachsenhausen concentration camp . In 1974 a memorial stone was erected on the road in the direction of Velten to commemorate the more than 1,500 prisoners who were killed .

In April 1945 , during World War II , Germendorf was part of a major Russian offensive. On April 22nd, there were Russian lace north of Spandau in Hennigsdorf , Hohen Neuendorf and Birkenwerder . Oranienburg was encircled from the south and the Red Army soldiers tried to penetrate further into the city. In the course of the pincer movement made by the Red Army in the direction of Berlin, attempts were made to advance westward on a broad front and stood on the Ruppin Canal , not far from Germendorf. On April 23, a German bridgehead was held south of the canal, the "Bridgehead Oranienburg".

During the night Russian troops were concentrated in Schwante and in the Kremmener Forest. Up until April 24, further German troops, mainly young soldiers with no experience of combat, were concentrated in the north of Oranienburg. On April 25, the “Oranienburg bridgehead” advanced to stop the Russian pincer attack in the direction of Berlin. After numerous fierce fighting, however, it was stopped on the railway line north of Germendorf. The fighting lasted until the next day. The Russian counterattacks became stronger and in the next few days Oranienburg, Germendorf, Friedrichsthal and Velten were taken by the Red Army.

After the fall of the wall and the subsequent integration of the GDR into the Federal Republic of Germany, Germendorf recorded an increase in population in the course of suburbanization . Mainly people from Oranienburg and Berlin were drawn to Germendorf, as the land prices and rents were cheap and the relative proximity to Berlin is there.

Germendorf has been a district of Oranienburg since October 26, 2003 and also has its postcode. This took place in the course of a municipal restructuring.

At the beginning of the 2000s, more companies settled in Germendorf, creating hundreds of new jobs. In 2006 197 companies were registered in Germendorf.

The park also includes the Kiessee and the Strandhotel Germendorf . The founder and owner of the park is the former village chief Horst Eichholz (* 1932, † 2017). Initially used primarily as a bathing resort, the park was formed in 2000 after an expansion and restructuring of the original area.

The park is 69 hectares in the western part of the village in a former gravel pit. For the construction of the Federal Highway 19 (Berlin - Rostock ), among other things, sand was removed in the Germendorfer area and the gravel pit was created in the middle of the forest.

The park is maintained exclusively through entrance fees, donations and the owner's equity. The costs for the park with its 22 employees amount to around 500,000 euros annually.

In 2006, up to 1000 visitors visited the park during the week and up to 2500 on weekends. Due to constant expansion and restructuring, the zoo now offers several attractions, such as B. an open air stage, 15 barbecue areas, a dinosaur park, swimming areas, a heated indoor play hall for children and a large playground.

On July 6th and 7th, 2001, a death and black metal festival took place in the Germendorf zoo, the "Under the Black Sun Festival". On two days the bands Mütiilation , Judas Iscariot , Deströyer 666 , Horna , Murder Rape, Ork and Trimonium played on a stage specially built for this festival in the western part of the park.

The performance of the band Mütiilation was recorded and distributed as a bootleg in fan circles under the title Desecrated Jesus Name - Live in Germendorf, Germany 7/7/01 .

Three hotels and guesthouses offer accommodation in Germendorf: the aforementioned beach hotel right next to the zoo, the Hotel Zumrohlichen Landmann opposite the village church and the Pension Märkische Heide at the eastern end of the village towards Oranienburg.

education

A primary school is located in Germendorf , which over the years had to merge with the Eden Primary School , another primary school from another district of Oranienburg , due to a lack of students . 180 pupils are currently attending the school, where they are taught by ten teachers in grades 1 to 6. The school also offers extracurricular activities in the form of working groups, e.g. B. a music group, a math group or a sports group. The school's motto is: "We are a non-violent school in which all children are given the opportunity to acquire extensive knowledge."

Since the school year 2010/2011, the Germendorfer elementary school has been classified as an open all-day school .

Transport links

Germendorf is on the federal road 273 , which connects the place with the center of Oranienburg in the west and Kremmen and Schwante. At the same time, it connects the district to the western bypass road ( Bundesstrasse 96 ) around Oranienburg. Germendorf and northern Oberhavel are directly connected to the Berliner Ring via the four-lane B 96 . The city center of Berlin can be reached within 35 to 40 minutes by car, the city limits of Berlin in a good 15 minutes.

Former Germendorf train station with modern neighboring architecture

The village is also on the former Nauen - Oranienburg railway line , which has been closed to public transport since 1967. Like the entire line, Germendorfer Bahnhof was built in 1915. The branch from the Berliner Nordbahn to the line towards Germendorf can be seen in Oranienburg a little south of the regional and S-Bahn station. Most of the rails from Oranienburg to Germendorf were dismantled during the construction of the B 96. The bridge over the B 273 at the eastern entrance to the village of Germendorfer also fell victim to the construction project.

Since 2006, the section from Germendorf west to Kremmen can be driven with draisines . A further railway touched Germendorf in the south. This line branched off at Oranienburg-Eden from the Oranienburg - Kremmen line (Nauen - Oranienburg line) and merged with the Kremmener Bahn at Velten . It was only in operation from 1951 to 1969 and has since been dismantled. The Germendorf Süd stop was on it .

The 824 bus, which commutes between the Oranienburg and Hennigsdorf stations, has two bus stations in Germendorf: the “Germendorf Dorfstraße” stop in the village center near the village church and the “Germendorf Am Bahndamm” stop near the Globus hardware store in the east. The line is operated by the OVG , which also has its headquarters at the eastern end of the village.

Sports

Football has a long tradition in Germendorf. A cycling club was founded in 1926, which in 1930 founded its own soccer team. After the Second World War, the team, like everyone else, was banned. It was not until 1950 that the team was brought back to life as SG Germendorf . In the 1960s the club played under the name ASG Vorwärts Germendorf . In 1972 the club was re-established as BSG Einheit Germendorf and changed its name to FSV Germendorf 1972 for the last time in the 1990s .

The games of the FSV Germendorf are played on the Germendorfer sports field, near the Germendorfer elementary school. In 2010 the FSV Germendorf won the Oberhavel district league and qualified for the state class West.
