history

Historic inn

The first documentary mention as Wenczkendorff dates from 1350, when the Margraves Ludwig the Brandenburger and Ludwig the Romans transferred Wensickendorf together with other places in the area to Count Ulrich von Lindow as liege lords. Since 1450 Wensickendorf belonged to the aristocratic family Arnim and became part of the Biesenthal office . In 1572 the Great Elector bought the place. From 1651 the place belonged to the office of Oranienburg . The village grew at the beginning of the 20th century in the course of the development of Berlin like a large part of the Brandenburg communities in the Berlin area. A small artist colony was established on the Rahmersee, in which actors such as Fritz Kampers , Eugen Klöpfer and Gustav Fröhlich as well as the playwright Carl Zuckmayer owned properties. Since October 26, 2003, Wensickendorf has been part of the city of Oranienburg after a municipal reform . At that time the place had 956 inhabitants.

Culture and sights

In 1438 the village church was built from field stones in the middle of the village green . The building with a rectangular floor plan is oriented in east-west direction and closes on the west side with a squat, brick-walled tower with a pointed dome. The nave with a flat ceiling ends on the east side in a wooden pulpit altar from the 18th century, which in turn is connected to the pulpit built in 1961. In front of the church there is a stone obelisk to commemorate the dead of the First World War .

Economy and Infrastructure

In the earlier centuries the place was a typical farming village with attached forestry. After 1990 agriculture declined, but in 2006 99 businesses were registered that mainly provide services.

traffic

Bundesstrasse 273 towards Wandlitz, exit Wensickendorf

Wensickendorf is located on the Heidekrautbahn , which opened in 1901 and is a connection from the regions north of Berlin to the capital. The builder was the Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn (NEB). The Heidekrautbahn and thus the connection to Berlin have made a decisive contribution to the settlement expansion of the place. At the end of 1997, Wensickendorf became the end point of the Heidekrautbahn on its western branch. The traffic between Wensickendorf and Liebenwalde was stopped. A branch line that used to run to Fichtengrund station on the Berlin Northern Railway has been back to Schmachtenhagen since 2000 . In December 2000 the Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn took over the operation of the railway line again from the Deutsche Bahn . The standardized station building, which has been vacant for more than 20 years, is to be given a suitable subsequent use. To this end, the municipal working group (KAG) “Region Heidekrautbahn” commissioned a study in 2009. However, practical steps have not yet been taken.

Wensickendorf is connected to the bus line 805 of the Oberhavel Verkehrsgesellschaft .

The federal road 273 runs through Wensickendorf as Deutsche Tonstraße , which creates a connection to Oranienburg and connects the district with the A 11 via Wandlitz. To the south there is a connection to the Berlin motorway outer ring via Zühlsdorf , to the north a road leads to Liebenwalde and on to Zehdenick .
