history
In 1894 the Solihull Rural District was created in the county of Warwickshire , which in addition to Solihull also included numerous villages in the neighborhood. In 1932, with the creation of the Solihull Urban District , some rural areas were separated again. In 1954, Queen Elizabeth II granted Solihull municipal borough status , and ten years later the city became a county borough .
The reorganization of the boundaries and competencies of the local authorities resulted in the formation of the Metropolitan Borough in 1974, through the merger of the Solihull County Borough and most of the Meriden Rural District. In 1986 Solihull became a de facto unitary authority when the central government dissolved the superordinate administration of West Midlands county . Solihull remained part of West Midlands for ceremonial purposes , and also for individual higher-level functions such as police, fire brigade and public transport.
