Michelbach is the largest district in the municipality of Aarbergen in the Rheingau-Taunus district in southern Hesse .

Geographical location

Michelbach is located in the western Hintertaunus between the Taunushauptkamm in the south and the Lahn in the north at the confluence of the Michelbach in the Aartal .

history

Michelbach was first mentioned in 1184 as Michelnbach . At the time of the Duchy of Nassau , Michelbach was part of the Wehen office . After the annexation by Prussia, it was assigned to the Untertaunuskreis in the Wiesbaden administrative district in 1867 .

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the previously independent communities of Daisbach, Hausen via Aar, Kettenbach, Michelbach, Panrod and Rückershausen voluntarily merged on December 31, 1970 to form the new community of Aarbergen. For each district, the main statute established a local district with a local advisory board and local councilor in accordance with the Hessian municipal code.

Economy and Infrastructure

The Michelbacher Hütte has existed on site since 1656 . It was initially operated as a sovereign ironworks by the Counts of Nassau-Idstein. In 1885 Adolph Passavant took over the business. The manhole covers with the inscription "Passavant", which have been manufactured in Michelbach since then, are distributed almost worldwide.

In 1954 the Aartalschule was built as a cooperative comprehensive school .

There is also a swimming pool , a village community center and the church field hall , a kindergarten , the Villa Kunterbunt, a sports hall , a sports field and a glider airfield .

traffic

The state road 3373 runs through the village. In the north it meets the federal road 54 .

Michelbach has a listed train station on the Aartalbahn . Since the cessation of passenger traffic in 1986, the route has only been used with draisines by the Aartalbahn working group .

Culture and sights

Buildings

  • The fortified church on the cemetery - built in the 12th century or earlier (medieval choir tower, cross vault , octagonal pointed helmet, round choir arch) - is a listed building. Today the oldest building in Aarbergen is used as a mourning hall.
  • Late founding Protestant church from 1908.
  • "Rahnstätter Hof" (former Hofgut), rebuilt well with a plaque on which the story can be read in short, below the glider airfield (first mentioned 1194-98, in 1870 the farm was released for liquidation)

The old linden tree in the cemetery

According to the school chronicle, the old linden tree in the cemetery, which is under conservation , was planted as a 12-year-old sapling by teacher Kern (Kärn) from Eisighofen in 1752 . In the past, every new teacher who came to a church should plant a tree. With its zwölfarmige pruning they were called apostles Linde . The community has done a lot to maintain it.
