history
The current place name is derived from the term iron and refers to the intensive historical iron mining in the region. The place belonged to the Duchy of Nassau or its predecessor counties. On March 1, 1676, Johann Graf zu Nassau-Saarbrücken gave the village the right to call itself free spots. In 1781 the village was destroyed by fire, but it was rebuilt with the help of the surrounding villages. The Duchy of Nassau, and with it Eisighofen, was annexed by Prussia in 1866 . Eisighofen has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 . In 1972, as part of an administrative reform, the Verbandgemeinde Katzenelnbogen was formed, to which the local community Eisighofen belonged until 2019 and which then became part of the Verbandsgemeinde Aar-Einrich.
