geography

Rettershain is located in the Taunus on the Einrich . The community also includes the Birkenhof, Fichtenhof, Forsthof and Hof Heidert residential areas .

history

Rettershain is first mentioned in a document around 1160. Rettershain belonged to the "Vierherrischen" area from the 14th century. In 1775 the parish of Oberwallmenach with Lautert and Rettershain came to Hessen-Kassel . From 1806 to 1813 the region and thus also Rettershain was under French administration ( pays réservé ). In 1816 the place came into the possession of the Duchy of Nassau ( Amt St. Goarshausen ), which was annexed by the Kingdom of Prussia in 1866 as a result of the so-called German War .

Since 1868 part of the Prussian province of Hessen-Nassau , the place came to the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1946 . Rettershain has been a member of the Nastätten community since 1972 .

After the First World War, the place was occupied by French troops until 1929 as part of the Allied occupation of the Rhineland .

In 1921 a prehistoric barrow with three burial chambers was excavated in the forest near Rettershain.
