Liigart is a municipality in the Rhein-Lahn district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Loreley , which has its administrative headquarters in St. Goarshausen .

history
On March 31, 845, the "villa Leyrscheyt in pago Heinriche" - the village of Li Various in the Einrichgau - with its 17 farms and 64 serfs was mentioned in a deed of donation to the newly founded Kloster Kettenbach an der Aar . The place belonged to the " Vierherrischen " area from the 14th century . From the second Nastätter recession of 1774, the place belonged to Hessen-Kassel.
From 1806 temporarily occupied by French troops ("pays reserve"), the place came in 1816 to the Duchy of Nassau . Since 1866 part of the Prussian province of Hessen-Nassau , the place came in 1946 to the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
After the First World War as well as after the second, the place was part of the French occupation zone.
The place was on 26./27. March 1945 captured by American troops.

Municipal council
The local council in Liigart consists of eight council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman. Until 2014, the municipality council had twelve council members.
