Weidenbach belonged to the Niedergrafschaft Katzenelnbogen and was subordinate to the Hohenstein Office and the Diethardt court . In 1567 the area fell to Hessen-Rheinfels, 1583 to Hessen-Kassel.
From 1806 to 1813 the area was under French administration.
