geography
The Bogeler Mühle and Heppenhofmühle residential areas also belong to Reitzenhain .
history
The place belonged to the Niedergrafschaft Katzenelnbogen and was thus part of the property of the Counts of Katzenelnbogen. After their extinction in 1479, the area fell to the Landgraviate of Hesse. Landgrave Philip I introduced the Reformation in 1527. After his death in 1567, the House of Hesse split into several lines. Ruppertshofen was added to Hessen-Rheinfels, but fell to Hessen-Kassel in 1583. Briefly occupied by Hessen-Darmstadt during the Thirty Years War, it fell back to Hessen-Kassel in 1648.
Between 1806 and 1813 the Niedergrafschaft and thus Reitzenhain was occupied and administered by France (pays réservé de Catzenellenbogen). After the Congress of Vienna it was sold to the Duchy of Nassau in 1816 as a result of an exchange deal. As a result of the German War in 1866, the duchy and thus Reitzenhain were annexed by Prussia. After the First World War, the area was occupied by France until 1929.
On March 26th and 27th, 1945 the place was taken by American troops. After the Second World War, the place belonged to the French occupation zone. Since 1946 it has belonged to the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate, since 1969 to the Rhein-Lahn district, and since 1972 to the Loreley community.
On August 24, 2012, all 324 residents of the village had to be evacuated because a ten hundredweight bomb from the Second World War had been found.

coat of arms
Blazon : "Under one by battlements cut red silver split shield main in green between two golden Oak leaves with a golden acorn a golden cuckoo ."
The coat of arms was approved on April 8, 1991. |
|
Reasons for the coat of arms: The red and silver pewter cut in the coat of arms of the Reitzenhain community establishes the historical reference to the Hessian rulership, especially the Rheinfels-Rotenburg line , which existed from 1648 to 1794. The green of the coat of arms symbolizes the place name syllable Hain as the color of the forest , while the representation of the bird is based on the popular name Reitzenhainer cuckoo . |
