history

Evangelical rectory in Nochern

It was first mentioned as Nochere in 893 in the Prümer Urbar . The Prüm Abbey had 15 in Nochern Mansi . In 1185 the Vogteirechte for Nochern went to the Lords of Katzenelnbogen, the manorial rule had already come to the St. Goar Abbey in 1089 through a donation from the Prüm Abbot Wolfram, which it held until secularization. After the Counts of Katzenelnbogen died out , sovereignty passed to the Landgraves of Hesse in 1479 .

The Reformation was introduced as early as 1528 by Landgrave Philipp von Hessen . From this point on, Nochern formed a parish together with Liigart , with the pastor living in Nochern. In 1666 a community-owned building was erected, which probably served as a council and school building. The building, which was replaced by a new building in 1829, served as a primary school for the town until 1971. After the death of Philip of Hesse in 1567, the House of Hesse split into several lines; the Niedergrafschaft belonged to Hessen-Rheinfels until 1583, then to Hessen-Kassel. Occasionally occupied by Hessen-Darmstadt during the 30-year war, it returned to Hessen-Kassel in 1648.

Occupied and administered by France from 1806 to 1813, the Niedergrafschaft came to the Duchy of Nassau after an exchange deal in the course of the Congress of Vienna in 1816. As a result of the German War in 1866, the Duchy of Prussia was annexed. After the First World War, the area was occupied by France until 1929.

Nochern was liberated by American troops on March 26, 1945. Since Nochern was later assigned to the French occupation zone, French troops occupied the place on September 28, 1945 and stayed until December. The place has belonged to Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946, to the Rhein-Lahn district since 1969, and to the Loreley community since 1972.

Only a few Jews lived in Nochern. Like the Jews from Liigart , these belonged to the Weyer synagogue community . The dead were buried in the joint Jewish cemetery . A commemorative plaque was erected there for the Gerson and Oster families who were deported from Nochern during the Nazi era .

The uneven colored contrasts of the corner cubes are characteristic of the construction period. Inside, a gallery runs around the hall church on three sides , which is closed off by a 5/8 choir .
