Heistenbach is a municipality in the Rhein-Lahn district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Diez .
geography
Geographical location
The municipality of Heistenbach is located in the Nassau Nature Park in the foothills of the Westerwald , about 1 km northwest of Diez , 4 km west of Limburg an der Lahn and about 14 km southeast of Montabaur . The Heistenbach flows through the area of the local community.
geology
In the era of Devon before about 360 million years ago originated in sub-tropical lagoons by stromatoporoids - and coral deposits Riffkalkschichten that dry fell before 325-305 million years. The collision of two continental plates resulted in lateral mountain pressure and faults, which pushed the limestone layers into one another and z. T. raised several hundred meters. This sometimes led to the formation of marble. The lime and partly marble was mined between 1872 and around 1963 in the area of the local community of Heistenbach.

Celtic barrows in the area of the local community Heistenbach bear witness to an early settlement. Heistenbach itself was first mentioned in a document on March 4, 1319. From 1806 the place belonged to the Duchy of Nassau , which was annexed by Prussia in 1866 . Since 1946 the place has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
Between 1828 and 1967 Heistenbach had its own elementary school . Today the place belongs to the catchment area of the schools in Diez and Altendiez .
Iron and manganese ore were mined in the area around Heistenbach until the 19th century . The dismantling stopped in 1883.
The population developed in the 19th and 20th centuries as follows: 1843: 285 inhabitants, 1927: 530 inhabitants, 1964: 766 inhabitants.

Heistenbach is assigned to the Roman Catholic parish Herz-Jesu in Diez and belongs with it to the pastoral area Diez, which in turn is incorporated into the Limburg district in the Limburg diocese .
