Hunzel is a municipality in the Rhein-Lahn district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the association of Nastaetten .
geography
The place is in the western Hintertaunus and in the Nassau nature park . The Lindenhof residential area also belongs to Hunzel .
history
Between the middle of the 2nd and the middle of the 3rd century, Hunzel was a garrison place of an unknown Roman number . The Imperial Limes Commission had the Hunzel fort excavated in 1896. It is located around 750 m southwest of today's town center.
The place Hunzel was first mentioned in a document in 1096. In 1260 it was called "Hundeszagel" (dog's tail) and in 1361 "Hondiszale". By 1467 at the latest, the place had its own chapel. At the end of the 15th century, a Hubengericht was first mentioned in Hunzel. An own winter school master is mentioned for the first time in 1783.
Until 1775, Hunzel belonged to the quadrilateral court on the Einrich (Nassau-Diezisches Quartier) and then to the Nassau office , which at the time was jointly owned by three Nassau lines . In 1806, Hunzel came to the Duchy of Nassau , which was annexed by the Kingdom of Prussia in 1866 .
On March 27, 1945, Hunzel was occupied by US troops. Hunzel has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 .
