Geisig is a municipality in the Rhein-Lahn district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Bad Ems-Nassau community .

geography

Geisig is located in the Taunus (western Hintertaunus ) in the so-called Blue Ländchen northwest of Nastätten . The Dickmühle, Habbesmühle and Weidenmühle residential areas also belong to Geisig .

history

The Roman Limes was in the immediate vicinity of Geisig .

Geisig was first mentioned in a document around 1250 as Geisecho and around 1260 as Geiseche . The name of the place comes from Geisaha and means something like the bubbling brook , probably the name for the Hombach.

Until 1775 Geisig belonged to the quadrilateral court on the Einrich (Nassau-Saarbrückisches Quartier) and then to the Nassau office , which at the time was jointly owned by three Nassau lines . In 1806 Geisig came to the Duchy of Nassau , which was annexed by the Kingdom of Prussia in 1866 .

The population developed as follows in the 19th and 20th centuries: 1843: 295 inhabitants, 1927: 298 inhabitants, 1964: 391 inhabitants.

  • Chapel (first mentioned in 1480) and church from the 16th century. The latter was built by an ancestor of the Freiherr von und zum Stein .
