history
Reckenroth was first mentioned in a document in 1235. In the Nassau Annals of 1991 about the parish of Ackerbach the following can be read: "The archives of the Katzenelnbogen monastery in Gronau, which was founded in the first half of the 12th century at the latest, could have provided more detailed information, including the farms in Berndroth and Reckenroth and the farms Hasenberg and Rotherhof owned ". Further place names according to Nassau Annalen 1991: 1213 Reckenrode apud Nahstedten, around 1260 Rekerod, 1313 Reckerode, 1536 Reckart, 1579 Reckert, 1629 Reckenroda. In the Hessian dialect, Reckenroth is still called Reckert today. The place name is probably composed of "clearing des Recco". This is symbolically represented in the local coat of arms: a two-part shield in the colors of the Counts of Katzenelnbogenbogen (gold + red), the two lifting hooks as a symbol for clearing the Recco, the bell stands for the Lady Chapel, the lily as a symbol for the patroness Maria.
Around 1895 2 stone axes were found near the old Reckenrother spring, which are estimated to be around 7-25,000 years old.
Reckenroth belonged to the Niedergrafschaft Katzenelnbogen and was subordinate to the Hohenstein office and the Laufenselden court .
From 1806 to 1813 the area was under French administration. After the Congress of Vienna (1815), the region and with it Reckenroth were assigned to the Duchy of Nassau on the basis of an exchange contract in 1816 . As a result of the so-called German War , the Duchy of Nassau was annexed by the Kingdom of Prussia in 1866 .
Reckenroth has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 . In 1972, as part of an administrative reform, the Verbandgemeinde Katzenelnbogen was formed , to which the local community of Reckenroth belonged until 2019 and which then became part of the Verbandsgemeinde Aar-Einrich.
