history

Weinähr was first mentioned in 1267 in a deed of gift as Anre . The grapevines contributed to the founding and are still preserved as wine in the name. The Arnstein monastery was mentioned in a document as early as the 11th century , which was the first settlement in the area. In the 14th century mills are mentioned that were operated by the Gelbach with five mill wheels. In addition, an iron hammer was built in 1591 , which was subject to the Electoral Trier. Between the village and Obernhof , a Nassau-Orange blast furnace was already in operation in 1589 , which was shut down around 1600 and reopened in the 1660s as part of the operations of the Walloon smelter operator Johann Mariot.

Until the secularization in 1802, Weinähr belonged to the realm of the imperial Premonstratensian Abbey of Arnstein. From 1806 the place was part of the Duchy of Nassau , which was annexed by Prussia in 1866 .

On February 13, 1945, a Republic P-47 of the US forces was shot down over the place. Lieutenant Swope was able to save himself with the parachute. Weinährer citizens looked after the soldier and saved him from being lynched by the local group leader of the NSDAP.

Since 1946 the place has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate .

The population developed in the 19th and 20th centuries as follows: 1843: 438 inhabitants, 1927: 440 inhabitants, 1964: 464 inhabitants.
