Scheuer is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of southern Eifel .

geography

Schufen is located in the South Eifel Nature Park . The hamlet of Altschünsch, as well as the residential areas Conrathshof and Palzkillshof, are also part of Schänen.

history

The first written mention of Scheuer comes from the 12th century; the place was probably founded by monks from the Prüm Abbey . The traditions do not provide any more precise information about the origins. Until the end of the 18th century, the place belonged to the rulership of Neuerburg in the Duchy of Luxembourg ( Vianden quarter ). With the occupation of the Left Bank of the Rhine in 1794 by French revolutionary troops , the place became French, in 1815 it was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . After the First World War temporarily occupied by the French , the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 .
