history
The place was only created after 1800 by the majority of citizens from Echternach. The Eiflia illustrata published in 1844 , a description of all the Eifel villages, mentions Echternacherbrück: “The hamlet of Echternacher Brücke is connected to the town of Echternach in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg by a bridge over the Sauer, where the inhabitants also go to church and school. The hamlet has only been in existence for a few years and, thanks to the near border, has increased in population. Before Luxembourg was connected to the Zollverein, there was a border customs office at Echternach Bridge. There is still a post expedition here. Ships were also built here. "
In the 20th century, especially after World War II , the population increased sharply. The tourism and the location as a border crossing determine the economic development of the town.

coat of arms
Blazon : “In the red head of the shield there is a four-arched silver bridge with a statue of the same color. Below in the main silver shield is a black chapel with a porch and a bell tower in front view. Two windows, door and tower hatches in silver, plus two flanking heraldic red lilies, each covered with a silver cross. Below is a blue area, which is crowned in wave form. " | |
Justification for the coat of arms: As an eloquent symbol for the place name Echternacherbrück, a stylized bridge is depicted in the shield head, which has been connecting the banks of the current border river Sauer since its origins in Roman times. The silver main shield shows the Liborius Chapel, which was built for the first time in 1680 and then destroyed at the end of the 18th century during the great revolution. In the coat of arms, a red heraldic lily is depicted on both sides of the chapel, which is covered with a silver cross and is intended to refer to the longstanding property of the Abbey of St. Willibrord on both sides of the Sauer in the Middle Ages. At the bottom of the coat of arms a blue area with a wave ending, a reference to the Sauer, which became a border water in 1815. |
