Niederraden is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of southern Eifel .

Geographical location

The place is not far from the mouth of the Radenbach in the Enz , southeast of Neuerburg . Neighboring towns are Fischbach-Oberraden , Utscheid and Sinspelt . The Krummacker residential area also belongs to Niederraden .

history

Niederraden is first mentioned in 1501 as Nyeraden together with the neighboring Oberraden. After the Thirty Years' War the place remained almost desolate. Niederraden belonged to the Luxembourg county of Vianden and was in the administrative and judicial district of the Geckler dairy .

With the occupation of the Austrian Netherlands (1794), to which the Duchy of Luxembourg belonged, by French revolutionary troops , the town became French and belonged to the Forests Department from 1795 to 1814 . In 1815 the former Luxembourg area east of the Sauer and Our was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Niederraden thus came to the Bitburg district in the Trier administrative district in 1816 and was administered by the Mayor's Office Outscheid .

The Lady Chapel was built at the end of the 19th century. In 1910 the place had 83 inhabitants, the number has since declined. In the 1930s, the old Marienkapelle was replaced by a new building. Niederraden has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 and has been a member of the Südeifel municipality since 2014 .
