coat of arms
Blazon : "Shield split twice, in front a black bar in silver, behind in red a silver bar, in the middle in gold a vertically and horizontally separated black high cross with a red snake." | |
Foundation of the coat of arms: In the Middle Ages, Koxhausen belonged to the County of Vianden and bordered on the rulership of Neuerburg. Deviating from the original form of the coat of arms of the Lords of Neuerburg (= black sloping bar in silver), the horizontal bar was chosen for aesthetic reasons. The colors silver and black already indicate the rulership of Neuerburg. The patrons of the parish and the place are St. Kosmas and Damianus, the patron saints of medicine. The Aesculapian staff (symbol of medicine) designed as a divided cross, indicates that there are two saints and at the same time symbolizes the martyrdom that both saints have suffered. |
