Location of the local community Nusbaum in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm
Nusbaum is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of southern Eifel .
geography
The community is located in the South Eifel Nature Park . The hamlets of Freilingen, Freilingerhöhe, Nusbaumerhöhe, Rohrbach, Silberberg and Stockigt also belong to Nusbaum .
history
The first dated documentary mention of the district of Nusbaum comes from the year 1317. However, according to an undated Echternach procession list, which according to the script dates back to the 12th century, Nushem belonged together with the neighboring villages of Mettendorf, Lahr, Peffingen, Stockem, Holsthum , Schankweiler, Kruchten, Bettingen, Frenkingen, Oberweis and Utscheid to those villages that were obliged to procession to Echternach on the Thursday after Whitsun with other parishes in the western Eifel .
Freilingen was first mentioned in 1364 under the name Vrilingen . Both localities belonged to the County of Vianden in the Duchy of Luxembourg ( Quartier Vianden ) until the end of the 18th century . Nusbaum was the main place of a dairy farm .
In 1794 French revolutionary troops occupied the Austrian Netherlands , to which the Duchy of Luxembourg belonged, and annexed it in October 1795 . From 1795 to 1814 the place belonged to the canton Vianden in the forest department . Nusbaum was the seat of a mairie . In 1815, the former Luxembourg area east of the Sauer and Our was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . 1816 thus came the town Nusbaum for Bitburg in Trier in the Grand Duchy of the Lower Rhine , which in 1822 Rheinprovinz opened. Nusbaum became the official seat of the mayor's office of the same name , to which the then still independent municipality of Freilingen and the municipality of Hüttingen also belonged.
After the First World War temporarily occupied by the French , the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946.
Today's community was created on June 7, 1969 through a new formation from the dissolved communities of Freilingen (195 inhabitants) and Nusbaum (345 inhabitants).

coat of arms
Blazon : "Shield divided diagonally, in front a golden key in red, behind in silver a diagonally black menhir cross."
Foundation of the coat of arms: The patron saint of the church and parish of Nusbaum is the apostle Peter. Peter is represented with the key. The key handle and beard have been chosen to be in the shape of a cross, as Peter suffered the death on the cross. The so-called Fraubillenkreuz, a Christianized menhir from the Celtic era, is under the spell of Nusbaum. The colors red / silver indicate that Nusbaum belonged to the county of Vianden in the Middle Ages. |
