Leimbach is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of southern Eifel .
geography
The community is located 2 km northwest of Neuerburg on a ridge above the Enz .
Leimbach also includes the Geibenhof, Schlinkert and Weidendell residential areas .
history
The name Leimbach is made up of the Celtic words lu (small) and ean (water, meaning the source of the Rasbach ). Already in Roman times there was a temple of the Roman god Janus in the area of today's place , but it was destroyed by an attack by the Teutons .
Leimbach was created during the medieval clearing phase . It was first mentioned in a document in 1456. It initially belonged to the Kockshausen dairy of the Luxembourgish lordship of Neuerburg . At the time of the Napoleonic rule, Leimbach belonged to the canton of Neuerburg in the forest department before it became the mayor's office of Koxhausen in the Prussian district of Bitburg in 1815 . In 1910 141 people lived in the village, the number has since declined sharply due to rural exodus. After the First World War, the place was temporarily occupied by the French again . In December 1943, Leimbach was badly damaged by British incendiary bombs. Since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .

coat of arms
Blazon : “Square, 1, 4 silver, 2, 3 red; I, 4: blue wavy bar, 2: three golden ears of corn; 3: golden bucket. " | |
Reasons for the coat of arms: The coat of arms is divided into four and shows blue wavy bars on a silver background in fields 1 and 4. They point to the Rasbach and the Enzbach , two defining waters in the district. At the top left there are three golden ears of corn on a red background; the number three embodies the three districts of Leimbach, Schlinkert and Weidendell. The bucket at the bottom right relates to its far-reaching function and significance as a dairy farm and is a symbol of a delivery vessel. The basic colors silver and red indicate the Luxembourg rule of Neuerburg , to which Leimbach belonged until the end of the 18th century. |
The coat of arms was decided on February 5, 2008 by the municipal council and approved on April 2, 2008 by the district administration of the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm .
economy
Apart from a few farms, there are no businesses. A wind park can be found in the immediate vicinity of Leimbach . The Neuerburg outdoor pool is built on the Leimbacher district.
