Berscheid is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of southern Eifel .
geography
Berscheid is located in the South Eifel nature park . Berscheid also includes the Gaymühle, Höhhof, Kandlerhof and Schiershof residential areas .
Neighboring communities are Koxhausen and Geichlingen .
history
The place is already mentioned in the 12th century as Bersheit . The name evolved over Berlynseit 1252 to Berlesheit 1311 and 1570 will Bereßscheid , 1654 to Berschedt than the first time from a chapel at the site is mentioned.
Until the end of the 18th century, the place belonged to the County of Vianden in the Duchy of Luxembourg .
After 1792 French revolutionary troops occupied the Austrian Netherlands , to which the Duchy of Luxembourg belonged, and annexed it in October 1795 . From 1795 to 1814 the place belonged to the canton Neuerburg in the department of forests .
In 1815, the former Luxembourg area east of the Sauer and Our was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . 1816 thus came the community Berscheid to Bitburg in Trier in the Grand Duchy of the Lower Rhine , which in 1822 Rheinprovinz opened. Berscheid was administered by the mayor's office in Koxhausen . After the First World War temporarily occupied by the French , the place has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 .

Municipal council
The council in Berscheid consists of six council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.
Culture and sights
Buildings
- Today's St. Bernhard Church was built in 1773 and was a parish church from 1808 to 1836. It was structurally endangered in 1984/85 under the direction of the Naturpark Südeifel e. V. completely renovated inside and out.

traffic
Berscheid is part of the Trier Region Transport Association . However, there are only a few buses in town on weekdays (line 422 of the Rhein-Mosel-Verkehrsgesellschaft ), which are mainly geared towards school traffic to Neuerburg . The nearest train station is Diekirch in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg , about 20 kilometers south.
The community is accessed through the 6 district road. The next federal road is the B 50 , which runs about five kilometers southeast of Berscheid.
