history

The place name was Heirbertzmüllen in 1480 , Herbertz Mollen in 1539 and Herbratzmühlen in 1574 , which suggests that the settlement is related to Herbert's mill .

Until the end of the 18th century, the place belonged to the Karlshausen dairy in the Luxembourgish county of Vianden .

With the annexation of the Austrian Netherlands , to which Luxembourg and thus Herbstmühle belonged, by French revolutionary troops , the place belonged to the French Forests Department from 1795 to 1814 . Under the French administration, the place belonged to Mairie Koxhausen, which became a Prussian mayor's office in 1815/16 .
