history

The area around Utscheid was evidenced by finds already settled in Roman and Celtic times.

In 1962, a grave field from the younger Bronze Age (1200 - 700 BC) was discovered in a clay pit in Utscheid. Several vessels contained the ashes of the dead. The rich decoration of the pottery is based on a few simple elements: line, point and wedge. The finds were exhibited to the public and can be viewed in the Bitburg-Prüm District Museum .

The place Utscheid was first mentioned in 1330 under the name Oizscheit or Oytscheit in a tax list. He belonged to the lordship of Neuerburg . In the course of the Thirty Years War, the place fell into desolation . Visitation files from 1712 reported on the state of construction of the church, which was replaced by a new building in 1746. Only the basement of the tower building remained of the old church. A glassworks has operated here since the 1770s. This was bought by Johann Dominik Laeis in 1796 in order to then close it.

Until the end of the 18th century, Utscheid belonged to the rulership of Neuerburg in the Duchy of Luxembourg and was assigned to the Weidingen dairy .

In 1794 French revolutionary troops occupied the Austrian Netherlands , to which the Duchy of Luxembourg belonged, and annexed it in October 1795 . From 1795 to 1814 the place belonged to the canton Neuerburg in the forest department . Utscheid was the seat of a Mairie .

In 1815, the former Luxembourg area east of the Sauer and Our was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . Thus the Utscheid came Weidingen 1816 Bitburg in Trier in the Grand Duchy of the Lower Rhine , which in 1822 Rheinprovinz opened. Utscheid became the official seat of the mayor's office of the same name . The municipalities of Brimingen , Burg , Fischbach , Niederraden , Oberraden and Sinspelt belonged to the mayor's office .

After the First World War , the area belonged to the French part of the Allied occupation of the Rhineland . After the Second World War , Utscheid became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate within the French occupation zone .

On March 1, 1971 Outscheid was renamed Utscheid.
