Biesdorf is a municipality in the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of southern Eifel .
geography
The place is located in the southern Eifel on the German - Luxembourg border in a wooded area. The districts of Biesdorfer Hof, Gaybach and St. Josef-Gymnasium also belong to Biesdorf.
Neighboring communities are Kruchten , Wallendorf and Körperich .
history
Finds from prehistoric times point back to a settlement history of the district as far back as the Stone Age . Roman settlement remains are also proven. The current village was probably created at the time of the Frankish conquest . The first documentary mention of the place was made in 1501 as Biedersstorff . Until it was taken over by French revolutionary troops in the First Coalition War (1794/95), the village belonged to the Luxembourg county of Vianden . In 1815 the place was assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna . After the First World War it was temporarily occupied by the French ; since 1946 the place has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .

The municipal council in Biesdorf consists of six council members, who were elected by a majority vote in the local elections on May 26, 2019 , and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

Foundation of the coat of arms: The community of Biesdorf has chosen St. Remaclus as patron , who is also patron of the church. The saint is represented with a lying book, on it the abbot insignia and a church model. Until the end of the 18th century, Biesdorf belonged to the Duchy of Luxembourg (silver-blue) and within the country to the County of Vianden (coat of arms of the Counts of Vianden). |
Sankt-Josef-Gymnasium
The private St. Joseph High School in Biesdorf is a nationally recognized Catholic school in independent agencies ( Missionaries of the Holy Family ) with altsprachlichem and neusprachlichem branch.
Culture and sights
- The church of St. Remaclus probably goes back to a Romanesque original building and is considered the oldest church in the diocese of Trier .
