Tuman Bay († April 14, 1517 ) was the last Mamluk sultan in Egypt from 1516 to 1517 .

Tuman Bay was appointed viceroy in Egypt by Sultan al-Ghuri (1501-1517) and therefore had to stay in Cairo during the al-Ghuri campaign . After the defeat of the Mamluks at the Battle of Marj Dabiq off Aleppo in 1516 against the Ottomans , he was proclaimed sultan in October. The Mamlukenemire, who had refused to support al-Ghuri, now advocated a continuation of the war and refused all negotiations, although the Ottoman Sultan Selim I offered peace against the recognition of Ottoman suzerainty.

After the occupation of Syria in January 1517, the Ottoman army advanced into Egypt and defeated the Mamluks on January 23 at the Battle of Raydaniyya near Cairo. The city was then conquered by the Ottomans in fierce street fighting. After another defeat at Giza Tuman Bay fell into Ottoman captivity and was on April 14, 1517 executed . This meant the end of the Mamluk Empire, even if the Mamluk influence in Egypt lasted until the beginning of the 19th century.
