The sour at Rosport

Rosport ( Luxembourgish Rouspert ) an der Sauer is the capital of the municipality of Rosport-Mompach in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and belongs to the canton of Echternach . Until December 31, 2017, Rosport was an independent municipality.
The origin of the name
The name Rosport probably comes from Rossfurt . Before the completion of the Sauerbrücke, the river Sauer could only be crossed by horse through a ford at a shallow spot. So Ros would come from Ross. However, there are also other hypotheses: Rosport would come from a ford that led through a reed field on the edge of the Sauer. Some Roman remains have been found around Rosport: bathing facilities in today's place, as well as villas inside and outside the place.
Composition of the community

history
Rosport belonged to the earliest possession of the Benedictine Abbey Oeren - St. Irminen in Trier . The Girsterklaus first appears in the sources on February 27, 1329. She belonged to the parish of Rosport. The hermitage was a Marian pilgrimage destination as early as the 14th century. The architecturally remarkable Romanesque building dates back to the early Middle Ages or the Gallo-Roman times (watchtower).
The Rosport rule lasted until the end of the 18th century.
