Moersdorf ( Luxembourgish Méischdref ) is a district of the municipality of Rosport-Mompach , canton of Echternach in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg .

Moersdorf is located directly on the Sauer and therefore also on the German-Luxembourg border. The national road 10 crosses the place. On the German side of the Sauer, the town of Metzdorf is directly opposite Moersdorf . Both places are connected to each other by a pedestrian bridge. The next neighboring town on the Luxembourg side is Givenich .
history
Already at the time of the Celts and Franks, people lived around Moersdorf, which was discovered through archaeological excavations.
Moersdorf was first mentioned in a document as Mersdorph in the 13th century. From this time until the French era , the Trier Imperial Abbey of St. Maximin and the Imperial Abbey of Echternach owned properties in the village. In 1248 the place is called Murstorff .
Up until December 31, 2017, Moersdorf belonged to the municipality of Mompach and since January 1, 2018 to the municipality of Rosport-Mompach, which was created from the merger of the two municipalities of Mompach and Rosport .
Attractions
The parish church of St. Martin is a sight. The Romanesque tower dates back to the 11th / 12th. Century. The nave was built in 1852 according to plans by Antoine Hartmann.
