Born ( Luxembourgish Bur ) is a district of the municipality of Rosport-Mompach , Canton Echternach in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg .

Born lies on the right bank of the Sauer . The national road 10 runs through the village, which connects Born in the north with the neighboring village Girst and in the south with the neighboring village Moersdorf .
history
Born was first mentioned in a document as Burna in 1084 . In 1317 the place was named Bornen and in 1340 Burne . In the Middle Ages, the so-called Born Dominion came into being, which lasted until the French era . In 1286 a Heinrich von Born was mentioned. The family had the previous building of Born Castle built, but it was destroyed in 1705 by an attack by the Duke of Marlborough. In the 16th century, salt was also mined in and around Born.
Born was an independent municipality until 1822, to which the towns of Dickweiler , Girst, Girsterklaus, Hinkel and the Hinkeler Mühle also belonged. Born came to the municipality of Mompach and all other places to the municipality of Rosport . This division was not changed until January 1, 2018, when the two municipalities of Rosport and Mompach merged to form the new municipality of Rosport-Mompach.
Attractions
Sights are the Baroque Born Castle from the beginning of the 18th century and the Catholic parish church of St. Martin, a neo-Romanesque hall building from the 1850s.

In addition to the church already mentioned, Born also has a primary school, a daycare center, various smaller shops and a campsite.
