Ludwig Münz (Pallottine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ludwig Münz SAC (* 1921 ; † 1987 ) was a German priest and Rector General of the Pallottines between 1977 and 1983 .

Life

At the beginning of his priestly ministry, Münz worked in Australia. In 1962 he relieved Father Andrea Stock as Provincial , who had served as Provincial for two periods, from the German Province of the Pallottines. Fathers Wilhelm Bange, Heinrich M. Köster, Andreas Stock and Wilhelm Kühner were appointed to the new provincial government as councilors. During Münz's term of office, the Schoenstatt Movement (also the Apostolic Movement of Schoenstatt) urged a separation from the Pallottines. The Schoenstatt Movement is an international spiritual renewal movement in the Catholic Church. The place of origin and spiritual center is Schoenstatt, a district of Vallendar near Koblenz. The founder Josef Kentenich (1885–1968) had the goal of giving the church and the faith of Christians a new, modern face. In 1964 the Schoenstatt Movement was legally separated from the Pallottines. In 1965 the Institute of the Schoenstatt Fathers was founded, to which the Pallottine Fathers and diocesan priests associated with Schoenstatt moved and took on the role of spiritual direction previously assumed by the Pallottines. Münz remained provincial until 1977 when he was elected rector general of the Pallottines. He remained so until 1983 and died in 1987 at the age of 66.
