history

In 2000 the community of Himmighofen celebrated its 750th anniversary.

Until 1479 the place was part of the County of Katzenelnbogen, more precisely the Niedergrafschaft Katzenelnbogen , after which it became part of the Landgraviate of Hesse . Himmighofen was subordinate to the Reichenberg Office and the Ruppertshofen Court . The Reformation was introduced in 1527.

From 1567 it belonged to the Landgraviate of Hessen-Rheinfels, from 1583 to Hessen-Kassel.

During the Thirty Years' War, the Lower County of Hessen-Darmstadt was occupied and in fact belonged to Hessen-Darmstadt, but returned to Hessen-Kassel in 1648.

From 1806 to 1813 the area was under French administration ( pays réservé ). After the Congress of Vienna (1815), the region and thus also Himmighofen were assigned to the Duchy of Nassau on the basis of an exchange agreement in 1816 . As a result of the so-called German War , the Duchy of Nassau was annexed by the Kingdom of Prussia in 1866 .

After the First World War , Himmighofen was occupied until the French withdrew in 1929, after the Second World War it was also in the French occupation zone and since 1946 has been part of the then newly established state of Rhineland-Palatinate .

Himmighofen was occupied by US troops on March 27, 1945.
