Blue country

Coordinates: 50 ° 12 '  N , 7 ° 51'  E Blaues Ländchen describes an area in the Rhineland-Palatinate Taunus , located around the city of Nastätten . The Rhine and Lahn border the Blue Land to the north and west; it ends in a south-easterly direction at Strüth . The Blaue Ländchen can thus be viewed geographically as synonymous with the association of Nastätten . The information sheet of the association of Nastaetten is called " Blaues Ländchen aktuell".

Even before the 16th century, intensive sheep farming was practiced in the “Blauer Ländchen”, and the fabrics woven from the wool were sold as particularly high-quality “Nastätter cloth” at home and abroad. After breeding was restricted from 1590, the cultivation of flax was an important source of income for the rural population in the Nastätter area until the end of the 19th century . Cloth was also made from the flax. This cloth was often dyed blue : it was already known in the Middle Ages that a particularly strong blue dye could be obtained from the leaves of local woad .

A pastry specialty of the area is the fasting pretzel .
