Hambach is a municipality in the Rhein-Lahn district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Diez .
geography
The area of the local community Hambach belongs to the foothills of the Westerwald . Hambach is located around 5 km west of Limburg an der Lahn , around 4 km northwest of Diez and around 11 km east of Montabaur . The river of the same name flows through the village .
history
Hambach was first mentioned in 1290 in a necrology from the St. Lubentius monastery in Dietkirchen . Hambach was part of the County of Diez . From 1806 the place was part of the Duchy of Nassau , which was annexed by Prussia in 1866 . Since 1946 the place has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
A school was built in 1890, it had to be closed in 1936 due to a lack of students and was then used again from 1947 to 1961. Today Hambach is in the catchment area of the schools in Altendiez .
The population developed as follows in the 19th and 20th centuries: 1843: 117 inhabitants, 1927: 160 inhabitants, 1964: 204 inhabitants.
