About this picture

Lohrheim is a municipality in the Rhein-Lahn district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the municipality of Aar-Einrich .

geography

Lohrheim is located in the Aartal , about seven kilometers southwest of Limburg an der Lahn and six kilometers south of Diez . The highest point in the Taunus area is the Eichelsberg (312 meters).

The Kaolinwerk residential area also belongs to Lohrheim .

history

The place was first mentioned in 790 in a deed of donation from Charlemagne as Larheim .

The name ending "-heim" indicates a foundation in Franconian times.

Near the village in Oberneiser forest are Celtic cairns to find. Other Celtic remains were discovered during construction.

Due to the Reformation , Lohrheim, Oberneisen and Netzbach have belonged to the same parish since 1564.

From 1806 to 1866 Lohrheim belonged to the Duchy of Nassau , which was formed in connection with the Rhine Confederation Act . In 1868 Lohrheim came to the Prussian province of Hesse-Nassau and was part of the French occupation zone after the Second World War . In 1946 the place became part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate .

At the beginning of 1914, the community was connected to the public water supply and the power grid. Also in 1914, test drillings were carried out to explore clay deposits , during which very powerful kaolin deposits were discovered, whereupon the Geisenheim kaolin factory opened another plant in Lohrheim in 1920 . The kaolin deposits are mined to this day, whereas the mining of iron stone and pyrite has been stopped. The mining of barite in the "Amalie" mine was stopped in May 1924.

In 1930 the cemetery in Lohrheim was opened. Previously, the Lohrheimers were buried in Oberneisen. During the construction work, several fragments were found that were later dated to the Franconian period.

In 1967 the multi-purpose hall with adjoining sports field was completed.

30 households are recorded for 1526, in 1588 there were 112 inhabitants, in 1643 at the end of the Thirty Years War only 29, in 1716 again 114. The population developed as follows in the 19th and 20th centuries: 1843: 331 inhabitants, 1927: 413 inhabitants , 1964: 533 inhabitants.

Local nobility

Lohrheim was the origin of several lower aristocratic families:

The von Lohrheim with the rose are mentioned for the first time around the year 1250. The last member of the male line must have died shortly before 1353. The family was above all well-off in Lohrheim and Oberneisen, with a small amount of free float in a small area.

In 1276 the families of Lohrheim with the sign and Donner von Lohrheim are first mentioned. Due to the similarity of their coats of arms, a close relationship is assumed, so that one can only speak of two families from the 14th century. Both were closely associated with the Counts of Katzenelnbogen . The most important representative of the von Lohrheim with the sign was Hermann, in the middle of the 14th century Abbot of St. Alban near Mainz . The last member was a Philip who died in 1543. The von Lohrheim with the Schildchen had a focus of ownership in Lohrheim and the surrounding area, but also had free float as far as Pfungstadt and Sulzbach . The Donner von Lohrheim owned considerable property, with a focus on Laurenburg, Lohrheim, Oberneisen and Katzernelnbogen. Free float extended over large parts of the Untertaunus and the southeastern Westerwald. In the middle of the 15th century, the Doner zu Lohrheim, presumably through an unequal son, became the lower noble family Donner, later: Donner zu Hattert. Several officials and, above all, officers in Sayn, Nassau, French and Dutch services emerged from it. The last time a member of Donner zu Hattert was mentioned was in 1688.

Another family from Lohrheim appeared around the middle of the 14th century as a Limburg lay judge family with lower aristocratic equality.

In 1666, Albertine Agnes von Oranien-Nassau awarded the Klenck family of civil servants the hereditary title "Herr von Lohrheim", which was associated with possessions in Lohrheim itself, for their services, especially in the native German lands of Nassau. These properties were sold at the beginning of the 18th century. With the addition of "von Lohrheim", the von Klenck family, who were based near Bremen at the time, appeared for the last time in 1726.

coat of arms

Coat of arms of Lohrheim
Blazon : "In blue on silver-blue rippled water, a golden duck with a red beak."
Justification for the coat of arms: So the shield in the municipal seals of the 19th and 20th centuries. The colors were added taking into account that it belongs to the Principality of Nassau-Diez. The sovereign court in Hahnstätten was responsible for Lohrheim, so that in the pre-ducal era there was no separate seal.

School lessons first took place in Lohrheim around 1750. Initially, the teacher's private house was used for this. When the teacher died in 1781, Lohrheim became the catchment area of the school in Oberneisen until 1801. In 1835, a school with a teacher's apartment was built on the site of today's fire station.

The closest primary schools are now in Niederneisen and Hahnstätten . A Realschule plus is also located in Hahnstätten.
