Holzheim is located on the Aar 3 km southeast of Diez and 4 km south of Limburg an der Lahn on the border with Hesse .

The place Holzheim was part of the County of Diez . From 1806 the place was part of the Duchy of Nassau , which was annexed by Prussia in 1866 .
