Holzheim is a municipality in the Rhein-Lahn district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Diez and lies in the triangle with the cities of Diez and Limburg an der Lahn .

Holzheim is located on the Aar 3 km southeast of Diez and 4 km south of Limburg an der Lahn on the border with Hesse .

The village of Holzheim was first mentioned in writing in 772 in a deed of donation from the Lorsch Codex . The castle Ardeck was first mentioned in 1395, built by Count Adolph von Diez and Nassau. The place Holzheim was part of the County of Diez . From 1806 the place was part of the Duchy of Nassau , which was annexed by Prussia in 1866 . Since 1946 the place has been part of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate .

The population developed as follows in the 19th and 20th centuries: 1843: 371 inhabitants, 1927: 571 inhabitants, 1964: 654 inhabitants.

Holzheim is connected to local public transport by bus line 284 of the Rhein-Mosel transport association , which connects Holzheim with Diez and Limburg an der Lahn . In December 2014, the Aartalbahn is to be reactivated on the section from Limburg to Zollhaus for local public transport every hour.
