history

Kestert is first mentioned in a document in the year 755, when the Abbey of Fulda came into the possession of several vineyards "ad Castrionis".

In the next few centuries Kestert was part of the Boppard Empire . When Boppard lost its imperial immediacy in 1327 and was pledged to his brother, Archbishop Balduin von Trier , by King Henry VII , Kestert also came to the Electorate of Kurtrier and remained there until the Imperial Deputation Headquarters in 1803, when all spiritual territories were dissolved . During this time, Kestert was part of the Boppard Office. Then it was slammed in Nassau-Weilburg and after the Congress of Vienna in 1815/16 it finally came to the Duchy of Nassau , in which it belonged to the newly established St. Goarshausen Office . In 1866 Kestert came to Prussia . In the occupation times after the First and Second World War , it belonged to the French occupation zone.

Then Kestert was incorporated into the new state of Rhineland-Palatinate and there in the district of St. Goarshausen and Loreley, which in 1969 became part of the Rhein-Lahn district .
