geography

Bettendorf lies between the Rhine and Lahn im Taunus (western Hintertaunus ). The Aspenhof and Sonnenhof residential areas also belong to Bettendorf .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1163. However, finds already suggest that the Celts settled the area .

Bettendorf belonged to the Niedergrafschaft Katzenelnbogen (Reichenberg Office), which from 1648 to 1806 was assigned to the Landgrave of Hesse-Kassels . From 1806 to 1813 the region and thus Bettendorf was under French administration ( pays réservé ). In 1816 the place came into the possession of the Duchy of Nassau , which was annexed to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1866 as a result of the so-called German War .

On March 27, 1945, Bettendorf was captured by US troops.

Bettendorf has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 . The population has increased significantly since the early 1970s.
