About this picture
Center of Buch

Book is in the Taunus (western Hintertaunus ) on the Einrich . The district is 4.19 km², of which 1.47 km² are forest and 2.46 km² arable land and meadows. The Buchermühle, Haus am Wald, Hof-Karwinkel and Hof-Pfarrhofen residential areas also belong to the municipality of Buch .

history

The Einrichgau was donated by Charlemagne to the Imperial Abbey of Prüm in the Eifel and pledged by the latter to the Archbishop of Trier, later loaned to the Counts of Arnstein and sold to the Counts of Katzenelnbogen around 1158 . Since the 13th century the fitter had four masters. After lengthy diplomatic negotiations, an agreement was reached in 1774 according to which the Vierherrische Buch should in future belong entirely to Hessen-Kassel . Book was thus part of the Naststätten office in the Lower County of Katzenelnbogen .

From 1806 to 1813 the area was under French administration. After the Congress of Vienna (1815), the region and with it the place Buch was assigned to the Duchy of Nassau on the basis of an exchange agreement in 1816 . As a result of the so-called German War , the Duchy of Nassau was annexed by the Kingdom of Prussia in 1866 .

After the First World War , Buch was occupied until the French withdrew in 1929. At the end of World War II , on March 27, 1945, Buch was captured by American troops around 12:00 p.m. There had been little resistance from the 276th People's Grenadier Division. Buch came into the French occupation zone and has been part of the then newly formed state of Rhineland-Palatinate since 1946 .
