Naming / naming theses
Monk Eppo
In nearby Limburg an der Lahn ( an der Lahn ) there is said to have been a Conradin monk, named Eberhard , whose Latin name Eppo was pronounced. This monk was very committed to expanding the existing forest settlement and supported the local wood and charcoal workers in their wishes for a larger settlement within the then existing, dense, heavily forested area. So it is said that the growing forest settlement was named Eppods and became Eppenrod by shifting sounds .
Just red
The old people in Eppenrod, on the other hand, have the following story: As already mentioned, it was a heavily forested and swampy area, which was cultivated by the first settlers with a timber industry and so the first clearing of the populated area also left swampy soil. The sorrel plant , which can still be found there today, is said to have thrived excellently on this ground and in some cases even left behind very large, reddish areas. The consideration of this “red plain” is said to have led to the settlement name Ebenroth , which then became “Eppenrod” through shifting sounds.
But the last thesis can only be traced back to narratives and is more a popular phantasy, while the monk "Eppo" can be found in books and annals.

Culture and sights
Protestant church
In the center of the place is the historically significant church, which is surrounded and walled by the cemetery and rectory.
In spring 2007 the building historian Hans-Hermann Reck (Wiesbaden) and the annual ring laboratory Hofmann (Nürtingen) carried out dendrochronological studies. The drill cores examined from the beams of the church tower provided the summer of 1192 as the date for the felling of the trees used. The unusual summer felling of the trees in particular allows conclusions to be drawn about a certain urgency of the use, conversely, an earlier structural use is rather unlikely, so that the year of construction 1192 can now be assumed for the tower of the church. The Romanesque church tower was probably first built as a free-standing fortified tower .
In addition, the church, which is well worth seeing, is characterized by a late Romanesque choir yoke and a baroque- style organ from the 18th century that is worth seeing and hearing , the prospectus of which is adorned with the coats of arms of the Schaumburg princes.
The church was first mentioned in 1336 and was assigned to the Church of St. Laurentii in Limburg by Bishop Balduin von Trier .
The church was so badly damaged in the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War that the central nave was destroyed and rebuilt after 1650 in the Baroque style. In 1541 the parish was reformed , but was still led by Catholic priests for a century.
In January 1997 a historical Bible from 1693 was found during a clean-up. This was then extensively restored and conserved and can be viewed in the church on request today.
Economy and Infrastructure
Eppenrod is a village with a rural character. In addition to a few farms, there are several craft businesses. Until the second half of the 20th century clay was mined in the municipality.
A new building area, at the exit of the town in the direction of Isselbach , expanded Eppenrod by several streets in 2000. Only a short time later, a newly designated industrial area followed on the outskirts of Görgeshausen .
