history
On September 28, 2010 the state government passed the “First Law on Local and Administrative Reform” with the aim of improving the efficiency, competitiveness and administrative power of local structures. For municipalities it was determined that they should include at least 12,000 inhabitants (main residence on June 30, 2009). The Nassau community fell short of this value.
Association municipal council
The Bad Ems-Nassau municipal council consists of 36 honorary council members who were elected in a personalized proportional representation due to the merger on September 16, 2018 , and the full-time mayor as chairman. The term of office of the previous municipal councils in Bad Ems and Nassau ended by state law on December 31, 2018, and the new municipal council will be re-elected in the general local elections in 2024.

mayor
Uwe Bruchhäuser (SPD) received 66 percent of the votes (5094 absolute) in the mayor's runoff election on September 30, 2018. Marion Krätz (CDU) got 34 percent (2,625 votes). With that, Bruchhäuser was elected the first mayor of the new community.
coat of arms
The new community has a coat of arms with the central element of the Nassau lion .
Blazon : "In blue a gold, red-tongued and armored lion, the golden gusseted shield base divided by blue wavy bars."
Meaning: The colors of the coat of arms are based on the Nassau colors blue and gold. The coat of arms is dominated in the upper part by the Nassau lion, which is shown in gold and red armored on a blue background. The golden area in the lower part of the coat of arms is bounded by sharpened palisades , which are supposed to represent the Roman Limes . In addition, a blue wave bar is shown in the golden area, which is supposed to symbolize the river " Lahn ". Both the Roman Limes and the Lahn are historically and geographically defining elements in both of the former municipalities.
