Charitable commitment

Guido Meudt is involved in various charitable projects. Above all, he is a founding member and since then chairman of the association Pfarrer-Landvogt-Hilfe, founded in 1981. The name goes back to Franz Adam Landvogt , who was pastor of St. Christoph and later of St. Peter from 1928 and who campaigned for poor people in Mainz , especially in the war and post-war years . The association is a corporate member of the Caritas Association Mainz and is actively supported by around 75 people.

The organization runs a clothes and furniture store for the non-sedentary, the homeless and the poor. When two homeless people froze to death in Mainz in the winter of 1979/80, the initiative set up an emergency overnight stay in St. Bonifaz and opened a tea room. The emergency overnight stays were in the winters from 1982 to 2001, when over 50,000 people found accommodation. No suitable rooms have been available since 2001. The tea room still exists today and is visited by 50 to 80 people every day. Around 350,000 visitors have been counted since the beginning.

Since 1987 there has also been the Start-Hilfe for counseling homeless people, which also does outreach social work with its three street workers. In 1993 the project "Caravan instead of park bench" was founded, which looks after homeless people in caravans that were set up near four Mainz churches. Since spring 2005 there has been a lunch menu for the poor on Fridays, run on a voluntary basis and located in turn at the churches of St. Peter , Cathedral / St. Quintin , St. Stephan , at Altmünstergemeinde and Christ Church .
